In the last few years the need to reduce energy consumption has grown. This is instigated by government (e.g. EnergyStar) as well as by the need to do more with the same or less energy (e.g. mobile phone or Internet-of-Things node battery lifetimes).
It is important to realize that energy consumption is a system issue. And a matter of weighing one thing against another and making compromises. Energy consumption can be reduced by software, but only as far as hardware allows. Product development therefore must take this into account from the start. In order to do that properly one has to understand all dependencies of all system aspects. Ultra-low energy consumption is a multidisciplinary target and project, as both software discipline and hardware discipline must be involved in the product development in order to achieve the desired goal.
Process for achieving lowest energy consumption
